Israel and Suckers, Pt. 2

London, March 24, 2015— I’m dwelling on Benjamin Netanyahu’s acrobatics over trying to backtrack over his pre-election remarks about the Two State Solution as well as the danger of Arab voters coming out “in droves” only because he keeps going at it.

Yesterday, at a party, he said he regretted the comments about Arabs because he wants to be prime minister of all Israelis.

Okay, fine.

But what I really want to do is share an old article by my friend Marjorie Miller when she was at the Los Angeles Times which expands on what it means in Israel (and in politics and diplomacy) to be a frier, which means sucker in Hebrew. Here is the wonderful article. Enjoy.

Here’s my own miniature post , rather less impressive, from a few days ago.

I am a former correspondent who, for more than 30 years, did time in China, Southeast Asia, Central America, Mexico, the Middle East, Europe and Africa and covered wars that went from episodic to non-stop. My book, "Forsaken," about Christian persecution in the Middle East came out January, 2016. NextWarNotes is a news and analysis blog designed to fill gaps, provide background and think about what’s next. The name of the site comes from a 1935 article by Ernest Hemingway in Esquire Magazine called “Notes on the Next War,” in which he predicted the coming conflagration in Europe, told why it would happen and warned Americans to stay out.
